The British Painting

We enjoyed our work on the project because

painting of old masters is one of the greatest treasures mankind has collected in the history of its civilisation; old painting reflects the collective experience of human spiritual life of many centuries; it has great influence on our souls and feelings, creates our moral values; art forms our outlook, enriches our inner world and influences greatly the development of a person and of mankind.

Our objectives

to study the history of painting in Britain; to learn creative activity of outstanding English painters; to find out how the British painting reflects the history of England.

How we worked on the project

We studied literature on the subject.

We surfed in the Internet.

We visited the exhibition “The Victorian Age and Art”.

The history of British painting

The history of British painting is intimately linked with the broader traditions of European painting. The early 18th century - English artists began to develop their own styles in marine and allegorical painting. Hogarth promoted an academy for the arts, the predecessor of the Royal Academy of Arts, the latter was founded by Sir Joshua Reynolds. The late 18th century, the first half of the 19th century - the great flowering of English landscape painting (John Constable and J. M. W. Turner).

The history of England is reflected in painting in many ways. We can… watch a lot of historical events; feel the atmosphere of Old England; imagine scenes of everyday life; see great people of the past and outstanding historic figures.
